The UK Government’s Planning Inspectorate has completed its examination of the Rampion 2 Offshore Wind Farm Development Consent Order (DCO) application.
The project involves up to 90 wind turbines off the Sussex coast, along with associated electrical infrastructure and will have a capacity of up to 1200MW. An underground cable route will come ashore at Climping Beach in West Sussex, delivering power to the National Grid at Bolney Substation in Mid Sussex. A decision is expected in early 2025. If consent is granted, construction could begin in 2027, with the wind farm fully operational by the end of the decade.
Rampion 2 is being developed by RWE on behalf of a joint venture that includes a Macquarie-led consortium and a subsidiary of Enbridge. Along with the owners of the existing Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, they have signed an Agreement for Lease with The Crown Estate, securing an option to develop the site.
