Amprion is making progress on the upgrade of its Lingen-Hanekenfähr substation. A new phase-shifting transformer was recently brought online and these transformers will help manage electricity flows and prevent grid overloads, reducing the costs of maintaining grid stability.
The project, including the installation of two phase-shifting transformers by 2025, represents an investment of around € 200 million. Once completed, the substation will cover 24 hectares and the development is key to distributing offshore wind power and is part of the region's broader energy transition, which also includes plans for green hydrogen production.
