Dokie Wind Energy Inc. has announced that it has been awarded a 20-year, fixed-price electricity purchase agreement with BC Hydro for its planned 180MW Dokie wind energy project in British Columbia.
The Dokie wind energy project is located on Dokie Ridge in the Rocky Mountain foothills of the Peace River Region in British Columbia and is one of the largest wind energy projects under development in Canada. Dokie Ridge boasts one of the top-ranked wind resources in British Columbia and is strategically located adjacent to the 500 kV and 230 kV transmission lines which originate at the WAC Bennett Dam. Dokie has completed its initial design engineering. The project has completed an environmental assessment study, preliminary interconnection study as well as critical First Nations and community support. Pre-construction work on the site is set to begin in the fall of 2006. Pursuant to the notification from BC Hydro, Dokie Wind Energy Inc. has the opportunity to supply 536 gigawatt hours of electricity per year generated from its planned 180-megawatt Dokie wind energy project for 20 years, subject to a number of conditions, which include signing a standard form Electricity Purchase Agreement with BC Hydro and providing an CAN$11-million performance deposit. Dokie Wind Energy Inc. is confident that both these conditions will be met in the near term.
