EDF Group has commissioned the Ensemble Eolien Catalan wind farm, a 96MW facility equipped with 35 Vestas turbines, located in the Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées region in France. The wind farm is equipped with “stealth” wind turbines, a solution favouring the coexistence of wind farms and weather radars.
This innovation, borrowed from the military stealth technology, is the result of a partnership between EDF Energies Nouvelles, Vestas and QinetiQ, the international defence, security and technology company. With a technology that decreases the reflectivity of their components, the stealth wind turbines reduce their footprint on the radars operated by Météo France, such as the one located close to the wind farm. The wind farm will be operated and maintained by EDF EN Services.
