Vattenfall has reached another milestone in the construction of the Nordlicht I offshore wind project in the German North Sea, with the installation of the first transition piece following the installation of the first monopile. Installation of the first monopile marked the start of a key phase of offshore construction for Nordlicht I in early July.
Deme is responsible for the transport and installation of the monopiles and transition pieces for both Nordlicht I and Nordlicht II. The transition pieces are manufactured by CS WIND Offshore in Aalborg, while the monopiles are produced by EEW Special Pipe Constructions in Rostock.
Nordlicht I will consist of 68 monopile and transition piece foundations. The wider Nordlicht offshore wind cluster is located around 85 kilometres north of Borkum in the German North Sea and comprises two projects: Nordlicht I with a capacity of around 980 MW and Nordlicht II with around 630 MW.
