The first floating wind farm of the Mediterranean Sea is plannedin the Strait of Sicily, off the coast of Marsala, Sicily, Italy. The wind farm, called 7Seas Med, will include 25 floating wind turbines with a capcity of 10MW each.
The wind farm is located 35 km from Marsala and from the Egadi islands in water depths of 300 meters. The project with an investment of € 741 million is developed by Copenhagen Offshore Partners with the support of the fund Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. After receiving approval from the Italian government installation of the wind turbines could begin in 2023.
