Lake Erie Alternative Power (LEAP) wants to develop a 2.52GW wind farm in the shallow US waters of Lake Erie, looking to straddle three states to leverage the best resources and achieve economies of scale.
The project, Lake Erie Alternative Power (Leap), envisages the placement of 700 turbines in clusters off Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. Entrepreneur Jeffrey DiLaura has signed a letter of intent with Siemens for the 3.6MW wind turbines. As part of any potential deal, the German company agreed to investigate the feasibility of local production, assembly and supply-chain facilities in the Great Lakes region.
