Wind measurement company Second Wind has announced that Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) is using its wind monitoring systems for evaluating wind power potential. The company uses Second Wind’s technology to collect data on wind speeds, direction and other variables for site assessments.

All of this data is uploaded to a web-based portal via satellite allowing for quick and easy analysis and if necessary, diagnosis. CPV first deployed Second Wind’s Nomad data logger in 2006 and now have 100 units in the field, along with several Second Wind Triton sodar wind profilers. CPV began construction of its 152MW wind farm in Woodward County, Oklahoma which is slated to go on-line later this year. The first phase of this project was sold to Oklahoma Gas and Electric and is currently delivering electricity into the grid.
