PowerWind GmbH has started construction of its first wind farm in Azerbaijan. The foundations for two turbines of the type PowerWind 56 have already been cast.
The installation of all four wind turbines with a rated capacity of 900 kilowatts each will be completed in October 2010. Customer and operator of the wind farm in Sitalcaj, about 40 kilometres from Baku, is the industrial enterprise Trans TS MMC. The extension of the wind farm to a total of eleven wind turbines of the type PowerWind 56 is already being planned. The oil state of Azerbaijan is investing more and more into wind energy: With only two wind turbines installed at the outset of 2010, more than 250MW of wind power capacity are currently in the planning. The government has announced to expand the share of renewable energies by three to five percent within the next few years.
