Proposals to build the largest single onshore wind farm in Europe were given the green light.
Situated at Whitelee, south of Glasgow, the ScottishPower project will be capable of generating some 322MW of electricity. When completed, this single windfarm will be able to satisfy over two per cent of Scotland's electricity needs in a typical year. The Whitelee windfarm would comprise 140 wind turbines with a maximum output of 322MW. The site is located on elevated ground to the south of East Kilbride. The project will start to become operational in 2008, and will be completed in 2009.
