The Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) and Japan’s OYO Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding in Tokyo to strengthen cooperation in offshore wind development. The agreement establishes a framework for joint projects, research and knowledge sharing, supporting NGI’s expansion into the Japanese offshore wind market. It builds on an existing working relationship between the two organisations.
OYO Corporation, founded in 1954, is a geoscience and geo-engineering consultancy with experience in offshore site investigation in Japan. NGI brings more than 50 years of expertise in offshore geotechnical engineering.
Under the agreement, the partners will collaborate on Japanese offshore wind projects, combining NGI’s design expertise with OYO’s local site investigation capabilities. Areas of focus include site characterisation in Japanese conditions, seismic and geohazard assessment, advanced laboratory testing and foundation design for fixed and floating offshore wind. Joint research and publications are also planned.
