Nordsee One has announced the signing of a 5-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Shell Energy Europe for approximately one-third of the annual output from its 332MW Nordsee One offshore wind farm. The PPA will commence in June 2027 and a proportion of the renewable power will supply the REFHYNE 2 hydrogen electrolyser under construction at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rheinland.
The 100 MW electrolyser will produce renewable hydrogen, helping to decarbonise energy products, from transport fuels to chemicals, which are produced at the facility and used across Europe. Nordsee One is located north of the German island of Juist. The project entered into commercial operation in December 2017. Northland Power holds an 85 per cent ownership interest in the project entity, with the remaining 15 per cent held by RWE.
