SgurrEnergy has been commissioned to carry out a comprehensive wind monitoring assessment on behalf of British Telecommunications (BT).
BT has ambitious plans to develop a wind farm portfolio that will generate up to 25 per cent of its current UK electricity requirements by 2016. The £250million scheme, which represents the UK's biggest corporate wind-power project outside of the energy sector, is part of the company's strategy to reduce its carbon footprint. Subject to planning consent, the communications provider aims to install 100MW of generating capacity by 2012, with a further 150MW targeted by 2016. SgurrEnergy's multi-disciplinary team will deliver wind monitoring, wind data analysis, wind farm layout optimisation and energy yield assessments on up to ten sites throughout the UK. Masts have already been installed on BT sites south of Exeter and on Orkney, with wind analysis expected to begin in March this year.
