Wind Energy Solutions (WES) has announced that it has received an order from the Government of St Helena for delivery and installation of six additional WES80 Hybrid turbines.
Initially three were purchased, these being supplemented with an additional three in 2009. Based on the savings the existing fleet were making an additional six WES 80 turbines have been justified and now purchased, these are due to be installed during 2013. Wind Energy Solutions has worked with Connect Saint Helena to integrate the wind turbine controls with the diesel generators. WES also provides annual support for their annual service. St Helena is an island in the South Atlantic Ocean and is a British overseas territory. The value of this order is approximately € 1.8 million. The wind turbines, which will be delivered simultaneously on a turnkey project basis are patented ‘wind–diesel’ hybrid systems. With the installation of the six new turbines St Helena will double its existing wind energy capacity. The six new WES turbines plus the wind turbines already installed on St Helena will provide a total of 20% of the energy needs of the island.
