The Board of Directors of Iberdrola Energía Internacional has appointed Hugh Elliott as the new Executive Chairman, effective 1 January. Elliott has had a distinguished career in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, serving as ambassador to Spain from 2019 to 2024, and in the private sector, where he was the global Head of Government Relations at Anglo American.
Within the British administration, Elliott held key positions, including Director responsible for renegotiating international agreements following the UK's exit from the European Union and Director for Europe. He also served as Director of Communications at both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for Exiting the European Union.
María Helena Antolín Raybaud has also joined the Board of Iberdrola Energía Internacional as an external director, maintaining her connection with the Group after her tenure on the Boards of Iberdrola Renovables and Iberdrola. Antolín is Vice-President of the Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations, a member of the Boards of INJAT and Danosa, and a member of the French Foreign Trade Council in the Spanish section of France. She has been Vice-President and a member of the Management Committee of Grupo Antolin Irausa, where she managed the corporate Industrial and Strategy departments, among other roles.
María Pla and Francisco Bisbal continue as external directors of the company. Pla chairs the company's Audit Committee and has had an extensive career in this field at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Francisco Bisbal is a Lieutenant General of the Marine infantry -retired- who, after holding numerous operational responsibilities, led the Higher Centre for National Defence Studies between 2019 and 2024.
