The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has announced the next steps in its auction for offshore wind energy development areas off the coast of Oregon.

On February 13, 2024, BOEM designated two Wind Energy Areas (WEAs): the Brookings WEA, covering 133,792 acres approximately 18 miles from shore, and the Coos Bay WEA, covering 61,203 acres approximately 32 miles from shore. These areas could support up to 3.16 gigawatts of wind energy capacity.

The following five companies have been qualified to participate in the bidding for these areas:

1. Avangrid Renewables
2. BlueFloat Energy Oregon
3. OW North America Ventures
4. US Mainstream Renewable Power
5. South Coast Energy Waters I

The auction will take place October 15 2024, following a mock auction on October 10, 2024. Bidders must submit their financial forms and bid deposits by September 27, 2024.
