The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has announced that it will issue a Call for Information and Nominations (Call) for a second regional offshore wind energy sale in the Central Atlantic, referred to as Central Atlantic 2.
This Call seeks public input on potential commercial wind energy development in areas off the coasts of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.
The Central Atlantic 2 Call Area encompasses 13,476,805 acres off these coasts. The area is intentionally broad to allow flexibility in minimising conflicts with other uses, such as commercial fisheries, military activities, and vessel traffic. BOEM will work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science to identify potential conflicts and guide decisions on the most suitable locations for wind energy areas.
This announcement builds on the input and planning that led to the first Central Atlantic lease sale on 14 August 2024.
