The French government has chosen twelve candidates for the latest 2.5GW AO9 offshore wind tender. The projects will be situated in South Brittany, the Mediterranean Sea, and the South Atlantic.
The tender consists of four wind projects expected to be awarded in autumn 2025 and to become operational between 2032 and 2034.
In South Brittany, the project will feature a floating wind farm with an installed capacity ranging from 400MW to 550MW. In the Mediterranean, two floating wind farms will each have an installed capacity between 450MW and 550MW. In the South Atlantic, an offshore wind farm will have an installed capacity between 1GW and 1.25GW. The final wind farm's technology—either fixed bottom or floating—has not yet been determined.
The consortiums selected include Le Groupement Elicio, Q Energy and Kansai Electric; Les Eoliennes du Grand Large, comprising EDF and Maple Power; Ocean Winds/Banque des Territoires; Oxan Energy/Ingka Investments; Skyborn-Octopus; and Plenitude-Qair.
The solo participants cleared to take part are EnBW Valeco Offshore, Iberdrola, BayWa r.e., Parkwind, RWE, and TotalEnergies.
The next step is to establish the detailed criteria for the tender and to clearly define the project locations.
