Penta-Ocean Construction (POC) (Japan) has commissioned Ulstein Design & Solutions to develop a heavy lift vessel tailored for offshore wind foundation installation. The vessel will feature the customised Ulstein HX118 design, equipped with a 5,000-ton Huisman main crane and the Ulstein U-Stern.
The design integrates a flush work deck, substantial lifting capacity, accommodation, and dynamic positioning (DP) capability. The U-Stern allows for the longitudinal storage and upending of monopiles along the vessel’s centreline, enabling the installation of longer monopiles without overhanging the ship’s sides. Additionally, the design allows the vessel to face into the waves during installation, reducing ship motions.
The vessel’s design is being developed at Ulstein’s Rotterdam office in the Netherlands, with support from Ulstein Poland during the Basic Design phase.
Seatrium has secured a contract from POC to undertake the engineering, procurement, and construction of the heavy lift vessel.
