The project team behind the 1 GW Ayre Offshore Wind Farm has advanced plans for a long-term operations and maintenance base in North Scotland. The facility is expected to support up to 120 jobs. Developed by Qair, the Ayre Offshore Wind Farm is located east of Orkney and north-east of Caithness.
Project representatives recently visited port facilities in Orkney and Caithness, including Kirkwall, Gills Bay, Scrabster and Wick, to assess infrastructure, logistics capabilities and long-term suitability for the operations base. The facility will support the long-term operation of the 1 GW offshore wind project.
The project team also provided updates to regional organisations and stakeholders, including representatives from the Orkney supply chain, Orkney Islands Council, Energy of Orkney, Focus North, North Highland Chamber of Commerce, The Highland Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
Ayre Offshore Wind Farm received planning consent from The Highland Council in March 2026. Consultation on the offshore application has now concluded ahead of a decision by the Marine Directorate.
