The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has again delayed the release of a final environmental report for the 800MW Vineyard offshore wind farm and now plans to release the document on December 11. The agency is expected to make a final decision on the project's approval by 15 January 2021.
The document has been repeatedly pushed back since April 2019 due to concerns that the project’s wind turbines will harm fisheries and navigation. According to Vineyard Wind the project is now scheduled to be completed in 2023 at the earliest. The lease area is located 15 miles off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard. The offshore wind farm is a joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Avangrid a subsidiary of Iberdrola.
