Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell has announced approval of the majority of the proposed Gateway West Transmission Line Project, a 990-mile, high-voltage line that will provide up to 1,500MW of transmission capacity in southern Wyoming and southern Idaho.
Gateway West is one of seven priority projects of the Obama Administration’s Rapid Response Team for Transmission. When built, these projects will help increase electric reliability and integrate new renewable energy into the grid. In particular, the Gateway West project expects to tap into the abundant wind energy resources that are being developed in this region of the country, such as in southern Wyoming.
