Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) has announced the completion of its Caprock Wind repowering project, supported by a 25-year renewable energy purchase agreement with Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC).
The 80MW repowering project replaced 80 1MW turbines with 20 4.5MW turbines, allowing Caprock Wind to maintain the same clean energy output while using 60% less land. Over 90% of the decommissioned turbines are planned for recycling, with the materials repurposed for various applications, including concrete and mortar reinforcement in steel mills.
