Project certification for the largest offshore wind farm in the Netherlands has been entrusted to Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services, business segment Wind Energy (GL Wind).
The wind farm is to be constructed approximately 23 kilometres from the coast, off the town of IJmuiden. The 60 wind turbines will yield a total output of 120MW. Project certification by GL Wind is performed according to the rules and principles set out in the "Guideline for the Certification of Offshore Wind Turbines". The independent fabrication supervision includes detailed examination of not only the manufacturing procedures but also the transportation of the components, the installation of the plant, and the commissioning. The order was placed by Windpark Q7 Holding BV, which is jointly owned by the utility company ENECO, the developer Econcern and the financing company Energy Investments Holding BV. Construction of the wind farm is planned for the second half of 2007, with commissioning scheduled for the first quarter of 2008.
