RWE opens operations and maintenance base for 1.1 GW Thor offshore wind farm in Denmark (credit RWE)RWE has officially opened the operations and maintenance base for the Thor offshore wind farm at Thorsminde port, Denmark. The facility was designed by ATRA arkitekter and Frandsen & Søndergaard, while Østermark Entreprenørforretning carried out construction. The 2,300 square metre building spans three floors and includes a control room, warehousing and office facilities, as well as a canteen and rooftop terrace. Its materials and colours reflect the surrounding dunes and grass.

Offshore construction of the 1.1 GW wind farm is progressing on schedule. In 2025, the offshore substation and all foundations were installed. Earlier this month, the first of 72 wind turbines, each with a capacity of up to 15 MW, was installed.

The project has already produced first power and begun supplying electricity to the Danish grid, with full commissioning expected in 2027. Thor is being developed jointly by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%), with RWE responsible for construction and lifetime operations.
