The TechnoCentre éolien (TCE) and the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles have announced the completion of work for the addition of a new 126 metres met mast on the TechnoCentre éolien research site.
This tower, owned by the Cégep (general and vocational college), will be operated by TCE, which acts as college centre for technology transfer (CCTT) in wind energy on behalf of the Cégep. The role and purpose of the met mast will be to characterise wind energy production in cold climates and complex terrain. To do this, the met mast will analyse exceptional meteorological episodes, including icing, using 40 sensors as well as equipment installed at ground level. This infrastructure will make it possible to analyse wind shear and turbine wake in real time. This will provide new knowledge on the interaction between wind turbines and the Canadian environment. The implementation of this met mast also represents an opportunity for companies in the field to test their products under development or in the pre-marketing phase.
