TotalEnergies has announced a pilot project to deploy a floating wind turbine to provide renewable power to the Culzean offshore platform in the UK North Sea.
The 3 MW floating wind turbine will be positioned 2 kilometres west of the Culzean platform, 220 kilometres off the eastern coast of Scotland. Scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2025, the turbine is expected to meet approximately 20% of Culzean’s power needs. The turbine will be mounted on a modular, light semi-submersible floater hull designed by Ocergy. The engineering, fabrication, assembly, and installation of the Culzean Wind Pilot will be executed by Archer Wind. This pilot project was selected in Crown Estate Scotland’s Innovation and Targeted Oil & Gas (INTOG) leasing round, which aims to promote the use of offshore wind energy to directly supply offshore oil and gas platforms.
