The permit for the Nordlicht II offshore wind farm, issued by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, has become irrevocable. With this approval, Vattenfall has confirmed the full Final Investment Decision for the Nordlicht cluster, comprising Nordlicht I and Nordlicht II. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026.
Vattenfall had taken a full FID for Nordlicht I and a conditional FID for Nordlicht II in March 2025, pending the necessary permit. The irrevocable permit for Nordlicht II removes this condition. Planning approval for Nordlicht II was granted in October 2025, providing the legal basis for construction.
Monopile installation for Nordlicht I is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026, with Nordlicht II following about a year later. Both wind farms are projected to be operational in 2028, delivering over 1.6 GW of net capacity.
