The Crown Estate is moving ahead with its Capacity Increase Programme, which aims to maximise the potential of existing offshore wind lease areas. By amending current seabed rights, the programme could enable an additional 4.7GW of generation capacity from seven fixed-bottom offshore wind farms around England and Wales.
The projects form part of either the Crown Estate’s Offshore Wind Leasing Round 3 or its 2017 Offshore Wind Extensions programme, both designed to efficiently expand capacity by building on existing developments. All seven projects already have grid connections and supporting infrastructure in place, allowing for faster deployment. Each site is located within an established offshore wind area. The seven projects are:
- Awel y Môr
- Dudgeon Extension
- Sheringham Shoal Extension
- North Falls
- Five Estuaries
- Rampion 2
- Dogger Bank D
