A coalition of 16 European think tanks, civil society organisations, and industry associations, including Airborne Wind Europe, has urged the European Commission to implement a bold Clean Industrial Deal. This initiative aims to reinforce Europe’s leadership in clean technology and establish a competitive net zero economy.

The open letter calls for the Clean Industrial Deal to serve as a Joint Decarbonisation and Competitiveness Roadmap, addressing weak market demand and fragmented policies. It highlights three key priorities:

1. Access to Clean Energy – Ensuring affordable, resilient, and abundant domestic energy supplies with the necessary infrastructure.
2. Cleantech and Industrial Strategy – Creating a strong European market for clean technologies by integrating them into industrial sectors and value chains.
3. Investment and De-risking – Establishing financial incentives and mechanisms to attract private investment and support large-scale adoption of clean technologies.

The letter outlines 15 proposals to enhance EU budget allocations, encourage private investment, and create lead markets for clean products. Kristian Petrick, Secretary General of Airborne Wind Europe, emphasised that the airborne wind energy sector represents a key test for the Clean Industrial Deal’s effectiveness in fostering innovation and supporting start-ups while meeting EU decarbonisation targets.
