The Finnish Government has made a negative decision regarding 16 applications for offshore wind energy in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
This rejection means that the progress of the offshore wind projects in question will be postponed. Legislation concerning offshore wind power in the Finnish EEZ is currently being prepared, and the Government believes that approving applications for exploitation rights would undermine the guiding principles of the forthcoming law. As per the Government's decision, all applications for offshore wind projects in the Finnish EEZ have been declined for the time being. While further development of the projects is not prohibited, the decision will effectively slow down their completion process.
