Norway has opened the first phase of its initial floating offshore wind tender, offering future subsidies to successful bidders. The tender covers the Utsira Nord site, located off the country’s south-west coast, with up to 500 MW of development rights available for commercial projects.
Developers awarded rights in this stage will have two years to advance their projects before entering a subsidy auction scheduled for 2028–2029. Subsidies will be offered as direct grants, with total support for the Utsira Nord site capped at 35 billion Norwegian crowns (approximately €3.1 billion).
