Qualitas Energy has organised an information event in Berlin, Germany to discuss the challenges of military restrictions in wind farm planning.
The event brought together representatives from politics, industry, wind energy, and military associations to develop solutions for harmonising wind energy expansion with the German Armed Forces' security requirements.
The event brought together representatives from politics, industry, wind energy, and military associations to develop solutions for harmonising wind energy expansion with the German Armed Forces' security requirements.
Approximately 50 participants, including members of the German Bundestag, military associations, and wind energy experts, engaged in the discussions. The event was moderated by Helmfried Meinel, former ministerial director and head of the Ministry for Environment, Climate and Energy in Baden-Württemberg.
The discussions emphasised the importance of balancing interests and finding innovative solutions. Participants addressed challenges such as helicopter low-flying routes and radar guidance minimum heights. Military representatives expressed interest in technologies that minimise disruptions from wind turbines. Key solutions included binding preliminary inquiries, formalising procedures, amending the Aviation Act, decentralising military responsibilities, and adding reporting requirements to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) for improved transparency. Qualitas Energy highlighted the necessity of early and close collaboration with the German Armed Forces for reliable wind park planning.
