The Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote sustainability, transparency, and resilience across the solar and wind energy supply chains.
GWEC is developing the Wind Sustainability Initiative (WSI), a multistakeholder platform inspired by the SSI model, to establish common environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and traceability standards for the wind sector.
Through the agreement, the SSI and GWEC will:
- support the creation of sustainability standards for wind within the WSI framework
- promote harmonised ESG and traceability standards for both industries while addressing sector-specific needs
- share knowledge by applying SSI’s existing ESG and traceability standards to inform wind sector practices
- strengthen multi-stakeholder governance by involving industry, civil society, and financial institutions
- encourage responsible sourcing across global renewable energy supply chains
