The Global Wind Energy Council has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Copper Mark to promote responsible production and sourcing of critical minerals used in wind energy systems. Copper is a core material across the wind value chain, and the partnership aims to strengthen cooperation on good practice and supply chain transparency.
Under the agreement, both organisations will exchange technical knowledge, engage their respective networks, and identify areas where joint support can help build responsible supply chains for wind energy.
The collaboration will also contribute to ongoing work under the Wind Sustainability Initiative, including efforts to align the wind sector with assurance frameworks and advance credible environmental, social and governance and traceability standards across global wind supply chains.
The Copper Mark is an assurance framework to promote responsible practices across the copper, molybdenum, nickel and zinc value chains. The organisation works with companies and organisations throughout these metals’ value chains to enable them to better understand and meet the increasing demands for independently verified responsible practices, and to contribute positively to sustainable development.
