The US Department of the Interior has announced its first-ever offshore wind energy lease sale off the coast of southern Oregon. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will auction two areas on 15 October 2024. If fully developed, these areas could generate over 3.1 GW of renewable energy.
The Final Sale Notice (FSN), which marks the last step before the competitive lease award process, outlines the provisions and conditions of the leases, auction details, lease form, criteria for evaluating competing bids, award procedures, appeal procedures, and lease execution. The FSN is set to be published in the Federal Register on 3 September 2024, and covers two offshore areas in Oregon: Lease Area P-OCS 0566 (Coos Bay), which consists of 61,203 acres located approximately 32 miles from shore, and Lease Area P-OCS 0567 (Brookings), which comprises 133,792 acres situated around 18 miles from shore.
