The UK has today (29 August) reached a historic milestone of 30GW of wind power capacity, with Scotland's offshore and onshore wind farms contributing 48% of this total.
Onshore wind farms across Scotland, from the Borders to the Highlands and Islands, currently provide 9.5GW of operational capacity, which is set to double as the Scottish Government aims for 20GW by 2030. The opening of SSE Renewables’ Viking Wind Farm on the Shetland Islands, adding 443MW of capacity, has pushed the UK's wind power capacity past the 30GW threshold.
