The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has announced the publication of a Call for Information and Nominations (Call) to explore potential wind energy leasing off the coast of Guam, a U.S. Pacific Territory. This initiative seeks public input to help define leasing areas and reflects collaboration with the Government of Guam, which has set renewable energy targets of 50% by 2035 and 100% by 2045.
The Call covers a single contiguous area around Guam, spanning approximately 2.1 million acres. The proposed area begins about 3 nautical miles from the shore at its nearest points, with water depths ranging from 350 to 2,200 metres.
Scheduled for publication on 6 January 2025, the Call will open a 90-day comment period ending on 7 April 2025. During this period, the public can provide input on site conditions, marine resources, and ocean uses near or within the Call Area. Simultaneously, wind energy developers can nominate specific zones for potential leasing.
