Flir has introduced a series of acoustic imaging cameras designed to detect abnormal sounds that indicate early bearing problems. These handheld devices are non-intrusive and can capture sound from a considerable distance, enabling inspections while turbines remain in operation.
The Flir Si2-Series uses a 12 MP camera to map sound and displays the signal on a 5-inch 1280 × 750 high-definition colour screen, providing clear real-time information. The cameras are lightweight and support preventative maintenance by giving early warning of irregularities in bearings and gearbox systems. They can also identify leaks in compressed air or gas systems and detect partial discharge in electrical equipment. Flir, part of Teledyne Technologies, supplies sensing systems for industrial applications.
