Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for its new floating offshore wind turbine design, SnapWind Float. The SnapWind Float has been developed to enable floating wind projects in deeper waters and is optimised for use in regions with limited access to skilled labour, heavy lifting equipment, or large assembly areas.
SHI’s engineering team completed the concept and basic design, while LR reviewed the project in line with its rules and international standards to confirm the feasibility and safety of the design. This approval supports the next step towards commercial deployment.
