Encomara has begun preparations for inshore trials of its Squid connection system for floating offshore wind turbines at the Ardersier Energy Transition Facility in Scotland. The 40-tonne Squid supports mooring lines, power cables and subsea connectors above the seabed, allowing these systems to be pre-installed before a floating offshore wind turbine is connected. The system is also designed to enable rapid disconnection.
The unit was transported from Huntly through Keith and Buckie before being transferred by vessel around the headland and offloaded at the Ardersier facility. Located 14 miles east of Inverness in the Moray Firth, the facility provides access to the North Sea. The trials represent the first floating offshore wind project to be launched at the newly developed facility.
