Acciona Energía has completed the installation of wind turbines for the Forty Mile Wind project in Bow Island, Alberta, Canada. Additionally, the company has connected 14 of the 49 turbines to the grid, contributing 80 MW of capacity.
The Forty Mile Wind project consists of 49 Nordex wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5.7 MW and a tower height of 108 metres, resulting in a total installed capacity of 280 MW. Over 250 workers braved temperatures as low as -29°C and worked around the clock in two shifts to maximise crane lifting windows and ensure the safe completion of the installation. Strict safety protocols, including a winter work plan, were vital to achieving this milestone.
Electrical commissioning is still underway, with the wind farm expected to be fully operational by spring 2025.
