Governor John Carney and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) have finalised agreements with US Wind, outlining renewable energy, community, and lease benefits worth over $128 million. These agreements support the development of two proposed offshore wind projects in the coming years.
The agreements include:
- Renewable Energy Credits (RECs): DNREC’s State Energy Office will receive 150,000 RECs annually from wind generation. These credits, valued at an estimated $76 million over the projects’ lifespan, will be transferred to Delaware utilities to help meet clean energy targets and reduce customer bills.
- Community Benefits Agreement: US Wind will fund coastal waterway dredging, workforce training for clean energy jobs, environmental scholarships, and infrastructure projects in state parks. This agreement is valued at $40 million over 20 years.
- Lease Agreement: Delaware State Parks will grant underground access for power transmission cables at Delaware Seashore State Parks. Lease payments will exceed $12 million over 25 years.
