Edison has completed the repowering of its entire wind portfolio in the Abruzzo region of Italy, increasing the total installed capacity from 114 MW to 186 MW. The programme was carried out in two phases between 2019 and 2021, and from 2025 to 2026.
The repowering involved replacing 173 older wind turbines with 47 latest-generation turbines, reducing the number of turbines by 73% while increasing annual renewable electricity generation to 355 GWh, around 2.5 times the previous output.
Edison's Abruzzo portfolio now comprises nine wind farms with a combined installed capacity of 186 MW. According to the company, the portfolio accounts for 61% of the region's total wind power generation.
