Hitachi Energy and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), an Indian engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), manufacturing and services company, have been awarded the Nederwiek3 and LanWin5 projects, the third and fourth projects under their previously announced multi-year framework agreement with TenneT.
The companies are already working together on the Nederwiek1 and IJmuiden Ver Alpha projects. The addition of Nederwiek3 and LanWin5 extends the partnership with two high voltage direct current (HVDC) links, each with a transmission capacity of 2 GW, to transport renewable electricity from the North Sea to shore. The projects will support the integration of offshore wind power into the national grids of the Netherlands and Germany.
Nederwiek3 will connect to an onshore converter station in the municipality of Geertruidenberg in the south of the Netherlands, while LanWin5 will bring electricity from the North Sea to Lower Saxony in Germany.
Part of TenneT’s 2 GW Programme, the projects reflect the move from individual grid connections towards a more integrated and flexible offshore transmission network. A key objective is the future integration of Nederwiek3 with the British grid through the LionLink interconnector, which is currently under development.
