Positioning the transformer with the Enerpac SBL1100Polish heavy lift contractor, MS Industry, has utilised an Enerpac SBL1100 hydraulic gantry to install transformers at the Baltic Power substation, part of the Baltic Power Offshore Wind development. The gantry provided precise positioning of two 354-tonne transformers on their respective installation tracks.

The 13.5-metre long transformers, which measure 5.3 metres wide and 4.8 metres high, were transported to the site using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT). MS Industry employed the Enerpac SBL1100 gantry to unload each transformer, lifting them clear of the SPMTs and skidding them along the gantry’s 7-metre track. The gantry’s Intelli-Lift wireless control system enabled the operator to raise and lower the header beam and side shift units, ensuring precise placement of the transformers onto the installation track.

Equipped with three-stage lifting cylinders, the SBL1100 can lift up to 12 metres at the third stage and handle up to 10,484 kilonewtons at the first stage.

The Baltic Power offshore wind farm, located 23 kilometres off the coast of Poland, is set to generate up to 1.2 gigawatts of power upon completion in 2026. The energy produced will be transmitted via export cables to an onshore substation currently under construction.
