RWE has secured the necessary construction and environmental permits to build an electrolyser near the Magnum Power Station in Eemshaven, in the north of the Netherlands. If built, the electrolyser will support the onshore energy system integration plans associated with the 795MW OranjeWind offshore wind project in the Dutch North Sea, which RWE is developing in partnership with TotalEnergies.
A key aspect of the OranjeWind project is its integration into the Dutch energy system, addressing the challenge of matching intermittent renewable electricity production with flexible energy demand. The planned 100 MW OranjeWind electrolyser in Eemshaven will contribute to this goal. Additionally, TotalEnergies will use its share of the renewable electricity from the OranjeWind offshore wind project to power a 350 MW electrolyser project, producing green hydrogen to decarbonise its refineries in Northern Europe.
