Iberdrola has received the latest monopiles for its Windanker offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. The components were manufactured by Navantia Seanergies and Windar Renovables at their joint facility in Fene, A Coruña, Spain.
Each foundation measures up to 84 metres in length, 10 metres in diameter and weighs up to 2,100 tonnes. The work created around 300 jobs and formed part of a €36 million investment to upgrade the Fene facility, including thick sheet bending capability, new paint booths, storage areas and updated manufacturing equipment.
The delivery is part of a long-term framework agreement signed in 2021 for XXL monopile supply.
Windanker, with a planned capacity of 315 MW, is located in German waters and is part of Iberdrola’s Baltic Sea offshore wind hub, which will total over 1,100 MW. The hub also includes the operational 350 MW Wikinger and recently commissioned 476 MW Baltic Eagle wind farms. Windanker is expected online in 2026.
In parallel, Navantia Seanergies and Windar Renovables are producing 45 monopiles for the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom, while Windar is manufacturing 95 transition pieces in Avilés. East Anglia Three will form part of the East Anglia Hub, with a total installed capacity of 2,900 MW.
