Van Oord has set up operations at the Port of Roenne to prepare for shipping foundations for a large wind turbine project in the Baltic Sea. This project will continue well into 2025 and will require more local labour and subcontractors.
One of the first tasks is to create sandbanks for the foundations to rest on. These foundations measure about 100 metres in length, nearly 10 metres in diameter, and weigh up to 2,000 tons each. They will be transported to Roenne and stored there until they are ready to be shipped out. When the time comes for transportation, the foundations will be capped at each end and towed to their installation site in the water, where a specialised ship will take over the installation process.
