VRB Power Systems Inc. has announced the sale of a 10 kWh VRB Energy Storage System (VRB-ESS) to the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
A 10kWh unit contains the approximate power and energy to support an average size household for several hours. The system will be validated at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks’ Arctic Energy Technology Development Laboratory prior to being installed at a long term field trial location where it will be operated by the National Park Service. According to Dennis Witmer, Laboratory Director, this installation will provide field test experience for the system in the tough Alaskan environment, and potentially open the door for its deployment in other applications such as wind-hybrid systems. The VRB-ESS is focused towards stationary applications such as utility substations, commercial buildings, production facilities, telecommunication operations, cellular radio sites and renewable resource generation such as wind and solar applications.
